Curriculum Vitae:

Dr Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici was born in Floriana, Malta on 17th February 1960. He was educated at St Aloysius College, Birkirkara, at De La Salle College in Cottonera and at the University of Malta from where he graduated as Doctor of Laws in 1984.

As lawyer, Dr Mifsud Bonnici practiced in the Criminal, Civil and Commercial fields. He also holds the post of Senior Lecturer in Roman Law at the University of Malta.

As a university student, Dr Mifsud Bonnici occupied the post of President of the MKSU and was active in the Nationalist Party Youth Movement (MŻPN) since 1982, occupying different posts in the Executive of the said movement.

He was elected to Parliament in 1998 and 2003 in the interest of the Nationalist Party. In 1998 he was appointed by Parliament as Chairman of Committees and was a permanent member of a number of other Committees, such as the Privileges Committee and the Consideration of Bills Committee.

He was a member of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority between October 2001 and March 2003.

In April 2003, Dr Mifsud Bonnici was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs. 

In March 2004, Dr Mifsud Bonnici was reconfirmed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Justice and Home Affairs.

On being re-elected following the General Elections of 2008, Dr Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici was appointed Minister for Justice and Home Affairs.

During his tenure of office in the Ministry for Justice and Home Affairs, the following documents were published: "Lejn Ġustizzja Aħjar u Eħfef" (Towards a Better and More Expeditious Administration of Justice) (2005), "Liġi li Temenda l-Mandati" (2005), "X'inhu sewwa l-Proċess tal-Medjazzjoni" (What Exactly is the Process of Mediation) (2005), "Miżuri Legali ta' Ġid għan-Negozji Żgħar u Medji" (Legal Measures to Benefit Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises) (2008) and "White Paper dwar il-Ġustizzja Riparatriċi" (White Paper on Restorative Justice) (2009).

Dr. Mifsud Bonnici is also the author of four publications "Żewg Minuti Flimkien" (1998), "Il-Prinċipji Hemm Jibqgħu" (2003) , "Sens u Sustanza" (2008) and "Il-Politika tas-Sewwa" (2013).

Dr. Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici is married to Alexandra née Gatt and they have three sons: Clement, Anselmo and Gregorio.
