Bill No. 26
Post Office (Amendment) Bill Back to List

Fourth Legislature (1976 - 1981)

Objects and Reasons

The main Object of the Bill is to tighten up various provisions of the Post Office Act to prevent the postal service, and the confidentiality which it provides, from being used as a cover for the evasion of those laws which do not, at present, enjoy the same protection as is enjoyed by those relating to customs, sedition and pornography.

The Bill also proposes to enable the Post Office to perform functions which are not strictly of a postal nature but could probably be performed by it.
