To provide for a body corporate to be known as the Malta Libraries under the responsibility and management of the National Librarian, with the aim of ensuring the collection and conservation of Malta’s documentary heritage through, amongst others, the provision for the legal deposit of publications, and to maintain and develop the public libraries, to encourage reading for study, research, lifelong learning and leisure purpose and to reflect current modern technological development in accordance with international standards.
