This afternoon, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia received a courtesy visit by the President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker who is leading the College of Commissioners who are in Malta to mark the beginning of Malta’s first Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

During the short tête-à-tête  meeting, the priorities of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as the inter-parliamentary meetings which will be organised by the House of Representatives under the Parliamentary Dimension of the said Presidency, were highlighted by the two dignitaries. The issue of migration and the situation in the Mediterranean, particularly in North African countries, also featured in the discussion.

Jean Claude Juncker was accompanied by Mr Alexander Italianer, Secretary-General, and Dr Elena Grech, Head of Representation of the European Commission in Malta.

Speaker Anġlu Farrugia was accompanied by the Clerk of the House Ray Scicluna, and Director International Relations Eleanor Scerri.
