PR170195 - The Speaker receives a courtesy visit by the Ambassador of Angola – 27.01.17

Data 27.06.2017

This morning the Ambassador of the Republic of Angola Florêncio de Almeida paid a courtesy visit to Speaker Anġlu Farrugia.

Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador de Almeida recalled the good bilateral relations that exist between Malta and Angola, which relations date back to the mid-seventies, although they were established diplomatically almost a decade later.

Speaker Farrugia referred to a trade agreement and an Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation Agreement signed in 1985, and to the visit to Malta in June 2013 of an Angolan technical delegation.

The two dignitaries noted the various areas in which the two countries could cooperate to further enhance their bilateral relations, including exchanges between their respective parliaments.

The Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the forthcoming EU-Angola Ministerial meeting intended to strengthen cooperation between the two also featured in the talks between Speaker Farrugia and the Angolan Ambassador.

Florêncio de Almeida was accompanied by Luis Saraiva de Carvalho, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Rome.
