PR170422 - The Speaker opens photographic exhibition by the Malta Sports Journalists Association – 21.02.17

Data 21.02.2017

Speaker Anġlu Farrugia presided over the official inauguration of a photographic exhibition organised by the Malta Sports Journalists Association.
In his address, Speaker Farrugia described sports as a social activity through which people congregate and interact with one another. As in other social activities, one is expected to adhere to particular norms and values. The physical activity in any sports discipline is healthy and essential for the physical and mental maturity of human beings.
The rules of the game discipline people. The game in itself, though enjoyable, upholds self-sacrifice as a prerequisite for success. Lack of due adherance with the rules of the game leads to improper behaviour that may require sanction.  Improper unethical behaviour such as bribery, corruption, racism and the use of illegal substances to stimulate physical action of sportsmen and sportswomen tarnishes the culture of sports and renders such persons ransom to illegal activities.
In upholding the proper values of human behaviour in sports, Speaker Farrugia called on journalists to acclaim the participatory achievements of genuine sportsmen and sportswomen.
The Executive Committee of the Association Internationale des Journalists Sportives – Europe, led by Vice-President AIPS-Europe Lev Rossoshick, attended the opening ceremony. Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport Chris Agius, Godfrey Farrugia MP, David Agius MP, and President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association Charles Camenzuli, were also present.
The general public is invited to visit the photographic exhibition by the Malta Sports Journalists Association from Wednesday 22 February 2017 to Wednesday 8 March 2017, at the foyer of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Malta, from 09.00 to 17.00 during weekdays, and from 09.00 to 12.30 on Saturdays and Sundays.
