The Income Tax Act, 1948 is being amended in order to give effect to the Budget proposals. The amendments also tighten up the provisions of the law regarding the records to be kept by businessmen, the filing of returns and the hearing of appeals. Occasion has also been taken to make various adjustments to make certain provisions of the law clearer and to repeal other provisions which are no longer operative.
